Welcome to my website! My name is Tatiana (she/her/ella), and I am a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Counseling Psychology Program at Teachers College (TC), Columbia University, working with Dr. Marie Miville. My research and clinical interests take a multicultural approach to understanding how trauma impacts the mental health of Indigenous Latinas. Separately, my dissertation centers on the academic traumas that STEM Latina Doctoral students experience and gathers primary qualitative sources to see how culturally affirming mentorship models can act as a supportive catalyst for Latina Doctoral STEM students and eventually affect policy. I am receiving specialized training through TC's concentration in Bilingual Latinx Mental Health and a TC-wide advanced certificate in Sexuality, Women, and Gender in Psychology & Education.
I am a proud graduate of Prep for Prep, Choate Rosemary Hall, and a college graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, where I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Spanish Literature and Cultures minor. To obtain this minor, I lived abroad in Barcelona, Spain, for 6 months while in college and studied at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. While there, I interned and began assessment with Dr. Jordi Perez analyzing gender-based differences in testing in 5 core courses. Similar to this research, during my time in college, I worked with Dr. Angelica Perez-Litwin to co-facilitate and co-create the Ella Leadership Scholars program, a pilot program for adolescent Latinas in Nyack, NY, to emotionally and scholastically support them under her company, Latinas THINK BIG. After college, I spent five years at Montefiore Medical Center in the Division of Substance Abuse, working on various medication adherence projects focused on Hepatitis C treatment and health justice for People with a History of Substance Abuse. This was before joining Dr. Marie Miville's team as a volunteer research assistant to publish Women and the Challenge of STEM Professions: Thriving in the Chilly Climate in 2019 (2022).
Outside of my academic and professional interests, I enjoy being with loved ones, reading non-fiction and growth mindset books, binge-watching trashy reality television (it's all about balance), and internationally traveling as much as (fiscally) possible. Another goal is also to be a certified scuba diver and skydiver and to live internationally once again.
Lastly, I am pursuing my final year of internship training (2024-2025) at Sharp Health Care in San Diego, California!
